What is National Dance Week?
National Dance Week celebrates the art and joy of dance in all its forms. Started in 1981 by the Coalition for National Dance Week (now the National Dance Foundation), the week brings more than a thousand events to communities across the United States — dance mobs, classes, performances, and social dances. After 40+ years in April, the celebration moved to the fall in 2024, anchoring the week around two full weekends of movement and community.
