National Cherry Blossom Festival
A century of blossoms, a season of friendship.

When is National Cherry Blossom Festival?
From March 20 to April 13.
What is National Cherry Blossom Festival?
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is the four-week spring celebration in Washington, D.C. that commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,020 cherry trees from Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki to the U.S. capital, a gesture that became a lasting symbol of friendship between the United States and Japan. The festival has run officially since 1935 and now draws more than a million visitors each year for the Blossom Kite Festival on the National Mall, the Sakura Taiko Fest, paddle-boat rides on the Tidal Basin, cultural performances and a parade. Peak bloom typically falls in late March or early April, turning the Tidal Basin into a halo of pink and white and giving the city one of its most photographed weeks of the year.
