What is Miraç Kandili?
Miraç Kandili is the Turkish name for the night of Isra and Mi'raj, observed on the eve of the 27th of Rajab in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the Prophet Muhammad's night journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and his ascension to the heavens, during which, according to tradition, the five daily prayers were made obligatory. In Türkiye it is one of the five kandil nights: mosques are lit up, families pray, read the Quran and exchange good wishes, and kandil simidi is shared.
