What is Loy Krathong?
Loy Krathong is a Thai festival held on the full moon of the twelfth month of the traditional Thai lunar calendar, usually in November. People make krathongs, small floating baskets of banana leaves decorated with flowers, candles and incense, and set them on rivers, canals and lakes. The offering thanks the water goddess, Phra Mae Khongkha, and is a way to let go of bad luck and grudges, and the night is filled with lights, fireworks and beauty contests.
