What is Hanukkah?
Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day celebration beginning on the 25th of Kislev. It commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after the Maccabean victory over the Seleucids in 164 BCE, and the miracle of a single cruse of oil lasting eight days. Each night a candle is added to the menorah, and families exchange gifts, eat fried foods and play dreidel.
