What is Yom HaShoah?

Yom HaShoah, Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day, is observed on the 27th of Nisan. Established by the Israeli Knesset in 1953, it commemorates the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust. At 10:00 a siren sounds across Israel, traffic stops and people stand in silence. Public ceremonies, memorial services and the reading of victims' names take place throughout the day.
