Samhain
Where the year turns, and the veil thins.
When is Samhain?
Every year on October 31.
What is Samhain?
Samhain is the ancient Celtic festival at the heart of the harvest-to-winter turn, observed from October 31 into November 1. It marks the night when the veil between the living and the dead is believed to grow thin — a time for bonfires, dumb suppers, and reading the year ahead. Many of its customs travelled with Irish and Scottish emigrants and grew into the Halloween now celebrated worldwide.
