Frankenstein Day
One spark, one monster, one legend.
When is Frankenstein Day?
Every year on August 30.
What is Frankenstein Day?
Frankenstein Day marks Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, the book that invented modern science fiction. Written when she was just 19, it tells the story of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature he stitches together from cadavers and jolts to life with lightning — a haunting meditation on ambition, creation, isolation, and what it means to be human. Readers, watchers, and writers celebrate the novel by revisiting the book, watching one of dozens of film adaptations, dressing up, exploring Frankenstein-themed video games, or simply talking about how a teenager gave us an idea that has haunted every scientific breakthrough since.
