What is International Vulture Awareness Day?
International Vulture Awareness Day, observed on the first Saturday of September, celebrates vultures and educates the public about their critical ecological role. Started in 2009 by South Africa's Birds of Prey Programme and the UK's Hawk Conservancy Trust, the day addresses misconceptions, supports vulture conservation, and reminds the world that these scavengers keep ecosystems healthy by removing carcasses before disease can spread.
