What is National Tree Week?
National Tree Week is the UK's largest annual celebration of trees, launched by The Tree Council in 1975 after Dutch elm disease had killed millions of elms across the country. It runs for about ten days from late November, the start of the winter planting season, when young trees can settle their roots before spring. Schools, community groups and councils plant saplings, look after hedgerows and learn about the trees in their own streets and parks.
