What is Geography Awareness Week?
Geography Awareness Week, promoted by the National Geographic Society, runs in the third week of November and asks how well we know the place we live in. It is a week of map reading, field trips and talks about how rivers, borders and weather shape a life. Knowing your own geography is not schoolwork for its own sake — it is what lets you read a map, follow a river and understand where your food comes from.
