What is Crate Day?
Crate Day falls on the first Saturday of December in New Zealand and marks the unofficial start of the Kiwi summer. It began in 2010 as a promotion by The Rock radio station and has grown into a popular tradition of gathering friends for a barbecue and sharing a crate of beer. Organisers and health groups also use it to promote drinking responsibly, staying hydrated in the sun and arranging a safe way home.
