Legacy Week

When is Legacy Week?

From August 24 to September 6.

What is Legacy Week?

Legacy Week is Australia's annual tribute to the families of military personnel who lost their lives or health in service, anchored by Legacy — an organization founded by Captain Stanley Savige in Melbourne in 1923 to care for the widows and children of his fallen comrades. The week honours service and sacrifice through memorial services like the Memorial Day Wreath Ceremony on the USS Midway, fundraising appeals, movie nights celebrating heroes, memory walls, charity bake sales, community picnics and storytelling evenings with veterans. Legacy supports over 43,000 beneficiaries annually, with the Legacy badge symbolising mateship, compassion and fairness.
