What is International Widows Day?

International Widows Day on June 23 is a United Nations observance dedicated to raising awareness of the rights, needs, and challenges facing the world's 258 million widows. Established by The Loomba Foundation in 2005 and recognised by the UN in 2010, June 23 was chosen because it marks the day the founder's mother became a widow in 1954.
