What is American Education Week?
American Education Week is held each year in the week before Thanksgiving to celebrate public education in the United States. It was started in 1921 by the National Education Association and the American Legion, after many young men drafted for the First World War were found unable to read. Each weekday highlights a different group, from teachers and support staff to parents and substitute educators, and schools invite families in to see classes at work.
